On May 9th, the vocal and instrumental majors attended the Music Showcase Festival at Six Flags amusement park. Normally, schools are allowed to choose the amusement park from anywhere around the country. Our school chose to compete at the location in New Jersey. Our vocal and instrumental majors had some grueling competitors from the Tri-state area, and believe me, they were tough!

The ensembles were judged by a variety of college music professors who rated the musicians on a scale of 1-200. For the first time ever, the choir and string orchestra won the "gold" awards. Our sting orchestra, earned a score of 189 out of 200 points, and our choir received a score of 194 out of 200 points. In order to get a gold award, they had to get a score that ranged between 170-200 points. This, however, wasn't the only noteworthy prize they brought back to Philadelphia.

Ms. Rosemary's choir also won "Overall Junior Middle School Choir" and they won their division. Mr. Rosa's string orchestra won "Overall Middle School String Orchestra" and defeated the other schools in their division as well. From here, the individual competitions began, which our students also swept. David Thai won "Outstanding Accompanist". In addition, we received the "Outstanding Section" award for the following categories: Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. The "Outstanding Section" award was also given to our viola and cello.
